ULTRA -- Rachel Maddow is a wonderful story teller and has a new Podcast Series called "Ultra" which I am finding fascinating (and scary) to see how history is repeating itself in todays world. The first 2 episodes are available now with more on the way. Totally free!

She brings up all the ingredients that in my mind hint at what could become a civil war in America, Christian Nationalism, Anti-semitism, putting military weapons into the hands of citizens, radicalizing key players with Nazi influence, and what should have been big stories, puzzlingly covered up or hidden from the past.

If you are interested in these stories from our fairly recent history, give it a listen and let me know what you think! I'm hooked and am eagerly awaiting the next episode.

Thanks. I'll be giving her a listen.

I'd like to say 'come to the UK', but we're in a similar boat. Much smaller and far less well armed of course.
And we like most of the world have no fear of socialism.

Democracy will end in 2022 and 2024, as Republicans lock up a permanent majority in Congress and the White House. What happens then, who knows? It's depressing, but nothing can be done about it.
Rachel has done some excellent work over the years, and she must be depressed that it's all been for naught, when half the population has been struck deaf, dumb, and blind.

The more that is known about the actions in history that led us to this point, especially by voices that have a far reach even if preaching to the choir, the more active people might be in countering the trend toward fascism. Those are my thoughts anyway.

Some of the political races look to be pretty close, so if we can get enough people starting to care again, we might be able to change our course. I think we have a lot of caring people in our country who simply have been duped, but also a lot of people who are true believers in the lies and propaganda they've been fed by those who were paid to spread it.

Stories like what are being told in this podcast makes one wonder if history is repeating itself in some ways, with bad actors using the same playbook, and maybe we can catch it, expose it, get back on track with what most Americans want our country to be.

Saw her talking about it on Jimmy Fallon last night. I really don’t want more bad news, only want to hear about solutions on how to stop it.

@Barnie2years

Like you, I don't want more bad news. Too disturbing.

Well sometimes awareness is part of the solution and keeping our eyes open in the current times.

@Julie808 My eyes are open, I vote every election, I support financially the Democratic candidates in my state and sometimes others. But when 50% of the population has dedicated itself to a one-Party government a la Russia, reading until my eyeballs blow out will not change the trajectory of the downfall. When, with just over a month left until the election, according to the last poll I saw, 7% of the state voters are undecided. If you can't decide between an obvious fascist and a con man or a great State AG and a man who has spent his life trying to help the State's neediest people, it leaves me pretty bummed out. If the choice is determined by who spends the most money, I find that disturbing as well. No Republican could buy my vote, just as I am sure 50 commercials an hour won't sway any Trumplican from voting for Mastriano and Oz. I have hopes that common sense will prevail, and in my neighborhood, all the Democratic yard signs make me feel very happy about driving around. But a few miles outside into the country remind me that there is little margin for hope. And no matter who wins, half the people around the state are going to feel angry, and if it's the Right that loses, maybe even violent. I know all this and reading constantly about how bad it is, or could be, does nothing to brighten my day.
