Oddly enough, the ONLY kind of civilized people do that. Prior to civilization, no one did it. It is civilization that requires salvation. Hunter/Gatherers didn’t need saving. They were still living in the Garden of Eden, so to speak.

Where are the civilised people? Man is still barbaric, murderous and morally repugnant as ever. We only have better technologies to achieve our barbaric drives.
