Everybody crying about the TikTok ultimatum? Think about this. Google, YouTube, Facebook, Reddit, Wikipedia, Blogspot, Instagram, Whatsapp, Roblox, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Pinterest, SoundCloud, NYT, BBC, Vimeo, Discord, Archive.org...and yes even TikTok. All banned in China. Why should we allow China to plant a Trojan horse that has 150 million American's info?

Then why is Google allowed to continue collecting data on everything we do?? Same with Meta, Microsoft etc. They all do. It's ridiculous that one company is singled out.

You can use incognito mode. You could stay off the web. If you'd rather give your info to China, feel free to do that. TikTok ban is a good thing.
@barjoe I don't use tik tok, they are all the same in this regard. if they find my Amazon selection, social opinions, porn selection, eating habits and PSA so interesting, then I am doing more to distract them from national security issues. Is anyone preventing Google from selling data to China, Russia, India etc
I never use TikTok and really don't care for it. But I know a lot of people who are making a lot of money off of it and will have trouble finding their outlets elsewhere. X is a problem of its own making since Musk took over (never used that either). The Right-Wing media outlets like Truth Social and ones no one except the true believers' use, are the ones that scare me more than a Chinese spy getting off watching all the crazy dance moves on TikTok.

People who have been monetizing with TikTok can go get a job. I favor the TikTok ultimatum, not a ban, it doesn't have to be a ban. Look at who voted against the ban, it's telling.
TikTok is huge in China, Asians tend to use line more than fb etc. "Stop your competing business or sell it to us" seems awfully mafia like to me.
Lovely to see China authoritarianism inspires the US to make their laws the same. "Foreign interference" cries the country that is Israel's dog.

American TikTok servers are already in the US so security is not the issue. The issue is the US govt agencies who wish to control algorithms, who wish to control the flow of information, are unable to manipulate the site. Has been an issue for awhile for US spooks but why now?

The Israeli Zionist message is being challenged so Israel instructed their bitch to shut down the favourite app of those protesting who also happen to be the youth, Gen Z.
This is what foreign interference is all about. The foreign influence in this case is not China, They instead inspire the US to help assist their master, Israel by introducing authoritarian measures.
One thing I will give the Chinese, they are not too forgiving of corrupt public officials, they tend to get shot. If China is to inspire US policy, why not adopt that one?
