It's humorous to see all of the posts elated that Doug Jones won the Alabama Senate race. Of course, of the two, he was by far the better choice. But Roy Moore is a really low fucking bar to beat...and he almost won. Around 1% difference...and it looks like the write-ins are what swung it in Jones' favor. In other words, Alabama just barely elected the non-pedophile in the race. Why? Because of one single issue – abortion. That's right, evangelicals – American theocrats – are so convinced that they are correct in thinking that a zygote is a human and that abortion is murder that they'd have rather had a pedophile as a Senator than a man who supports a woman's right to choose what happens with her own body. This is why I'm anti-theist.
The tragedy in this soap is the child whose father said he wanted to rape her. It will affect her throughout life, as many of us have suffered into adulthood from misguided or malicious adults abusing us as children. In this case, the stories and pictures are strewn across the web, which may compound her suffering.
And they have to go contrary to their own scriptures to hold that belief.
I also find it amazing that pedophilia does not automatically disqualify a candidate in the eyes of the constituency. Where is the moral outrage?
