Favorite cover songs?

What songs do you prefer over the original, or may even be better?

Like my pick, way better than the boring Neil Young version:

Good post. I had to really mull this one over. There are a ton of great covers I could list but my favorite has to be Johnny Cash's Cover of Hurt.

Here is a quote from Trent Reznor after watching the music video.

"I pop the video in, and wow... Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps... Wow. [I felt like] I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn't mine anymore... It really made me think about how powerful music is as a medium and art form. I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. [Somehow] that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning — different, but every bit as pure."

Wow.

Came here to say this.

Man, I hadn’t watched the actual video in a while. Perfect song for him.

That's the first cover song I thought of.

I always think of this one. Love the funky bass. This is killer.

This song. This entire album. Perfection.

Did you see the recent video release of Prince performing this song?
I liked it when the Family did it, but I think I like when he does his own material, most.

Completely, completely, completely!

An arrow to the heart. I wish I could award a hundred 'likes'.

Elton John’s “Daniel” as covered by Fuel is great. I also like Halestorm’s versions of “Slave to the Grind” (Skid Row) and “All I Want to Do (Is Make Love to You)” (Heart).

I realized that as well.

Which leads me to this song. My daughter Emily who was conceived listening to Bowie songs and was born with eyes of different colour

Almost anything Sinatra, Charles, or Cocker covered was theirs after they covered it.

I dig this one lots, too...

Those two had great synergy. It is a shame they separated.

@TheInterlooper

I agree smile003.gif
Have you heard any of his independent stuff? It’s pretty good.

@AMGT I haven't but I will check it out.

@TheInterlooper

I like this one..

@AMGT That was great! Thanks for sharing. Now I have to go listen to the whole album.

I can listen to this version over and over nonstop...

We need a good powerful song like that for an anti-theist anthem.

This is my pick as well. So powerful. smile001.gif

Sorry, I can’t get into this version. Bugs me that it was a duet originally but he sings it solo. Plus there’s a lesser known band Bobaflex that sang it a few years prior.

@Marcie1974 here it's performed live as a duet.😀😜😂

Edited

@NotConvinced touché lol

Heard it thru the Grapevine as CCR played it. With apologies to Marvin.

I thought it was Gladys Knight & the Pips who originally did the song? 🤔

@atheist I’m pretty sure Marvin Gaye wrote it. Gladys had a hit with it but Fogerty oh Fogerty.

@Gonzogopher Written by Whitfield & Strong in 66! First recording was produced by Whitfield for GK&TP in 67! Source: Wikipedia.

@atheist thanks.

I swear, I'm just gonna take a day, sit down, and go through all of these one by one. I imagine it will be a very horizon-broadening experience.
