U.S. Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers, who sits in Congress as a representative of the 5th district in the state of Washington has introduced H. Res. 874, a congressional resolution that would provide official federal government support to the designation of a National Year of Humiliation.
The National Year of Humiliation resolution would, if passed, create an official year-long government-endorsed Christian ritual in which Americans would gather to humiliate themselves over and over again in order to demonstrate obedience to the Christian god.
The resolution states that Americans "are a self-consumed, prideful, and unloving people".
Yes, it sounds like a joke, but it isn't. It's Christian Nationalism at its most bizarre.
At present, the congressional resolution to create a year-long ritualistic Christian Nationalist humiliation of America has 15 cosponsors in the US House of Representatives. They are:
Vicky Hartzler – Missouri
Mariannette Miller-Meeks – Iowa
John Joyce – Pennsylvania
Larry Bucshon – Indiana
Markwayne Mullin – Oklahoma
David McKinley – West Virginia
Louie Gohmert – Texas
Yvette Herrell – New Mexico
Diana Harshbarger – Tennessee
Bill Johnson – Ohio
Adrian Smith – Nebraska
Brian Babin – Texas
John Moolenaar – Michigan
Debbie Lesko – Arizona
Virginia Foxx – North Carolina
(This post is an excerpt from a longer article at Stop Christian Nationalism)
I'm embarrassed to admit I am familiar with Miller-Meeks from Iowa. She is a nutcase that represents a rural Iowa district full of hicks and ignorant idiots, so that is how she gets elected over and over.
Don't be embarrassed that you're politically aware, be proud that you know enough to know that Miller-Meeks is a nutcase.
These Christian militants miss the point again as their religion calls for humility, not humiliation! Attention should be focused on the district that elected Ms. Rogers and those who have signed on to this fascist legislation, not just the representatives themselves.
I'd nuance this comment by saying that SOME forms of Christianity call for humility, and OTHER forms of Christianity call for outright humiliation. Christianity is not a single thing. Christian Nationalism definitely calls for humiliation of non-Christians, non-Europeans, non-males, non-Americans...
@CliffordCook That may be, but humiliating others or even oneself is not called for in the New Testament and therefore not actually a Christian value.
