I received the turtle and it's a beautiful, adult female, Eastern box turtle with sequins and beads glued to her shell. The people that found her were able to remove some of the "bling", but the rest of it is really stuck on. I'll take her to the vet clinic tomorrow to get the rest of the beads off. Unfortunately, we don't know where she came from so we can't return her to her own territory, so on Monday she will be on her way to a big rehab facility in Schuylkill County. They will have to make a judgement call whether to return her to the wild somewhere else or to keep her as a breeding and educational animal.

It could be that the bedazalier was trying to help the turtle to be more visible for when it was crossing the road . Maybe ?

@Insectra I never thought that people did it on purpose , thats pretty messed up . I hate snappers , I wouldn't stop to get them off the road but I wouldn't run them over . Box turtles I pick up off the road usually get taken home where I'm surrounded by woods and less traffic . Snakes are on their own .
I would bet that superglue (cyanoacralate) is the adhesive used. Since it's incredibly strong and bonds rapidly, it would work best for this. It's also the most common adhesive that would be readily available. Finally, it's the go to glue for household use.
If that's the case. There are CA solvents that are safe enough for use on human skin. That alone is proof that people who are too stupid to use super adhesives do, right?
