I read all the Harry Potter books, so I see the kitty as both.

Hey, cats are schizo enough already! Let's not give them split-personalities, too!
And if you were a child & wore spectacles in the '50s in England you recognise them as the bog standard NHS issue to children. I think most wearers hated them.
