I can't take in any feral fur babies because of my life situation, but I feed the cats in a local park. I care about them as much as people.

Good on you. Is there a local cat rescue organisation?

I feed everything - the feral cats, the possums, the birds, the squirrels...... 🙂

Come to my house.

We had this conversation this morning. My roommate came in from getting mail and said "Tell me "No Sixx - that's not going to happen."". I'm all "Say what?".

After some back and forth I found out about tiny cat prints in the snow.

I happen to know there are two outdoor kitties in the neighborhood and one loves to walk right up my front walk. So my heart didn't stop.

I also explained that at three kitties we were definitely at the max for these cats. They all had somewhat rough beginnings and just don't need more cats to deal with.
I know which rescues to call if we ever see a TNR situation. I even know how to do TNR if need be.
We know these cats have their own issues and the stress of another cat wouldn't be good for their balance.

Makes my heart drop every time I see prints in the snow though. We don't live in an area where cats should be outdoors. I actually saw a coyote at dusk once. From then on I knew people who let their cats out were taking a tremendous risk.

What is TNR?

@TomMcGiverin Trap neuter release

@TomMcGiverin If you look at the kitty in the picture above? It's a TNR cat - that's why there is a part of the ear missing. It's how they can tell it's been neutered - so they don't bother it for that process again.

There are colonies in some places - that are fairly healthy - with minimal human interaction. The cats are feral.

It's pretty remarkable seeing them as animals that can survive in nature.

I prefer them as house guests though. I'll admit that.

Don't beat yourself up over it. Do what you can and be fine with it.

Saw a cat in my back yard . Thought she was a neighbor's cat . She gave birth to a litter of kitties on my side porch . One day she didn't eat the food I set out for her . She had been murdered . She was a great Mom . She didn't deserve that . I had six little kittens to raise , without her .
