my dear kuma is gone. she had very dangerous surgery this morning but came through it great and i expected to be taking her home, but suddenly she went into a decline and was all but dead, and could not be saved, so she had to be killed as she was suffocating. this is our third such loss this year. i am in shock.

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.thank you, everyone, for your kind words. we buried her today. we sprinkled impatiens seeds on top of her grave, as we had for penny -- and those are doing well, so we expect these will too -- and some seeds of flowers intended to attract hummingbirds. if only the dear kitties could see the birdies! i was out of gladiolus bulbs so we buried some avocado pits just a couple inches aboce her body. you never know. but i am heartbroken.

i want to thank everyone who has responded so far and to note, too, that kuma did not actually use the remote in the picture. she was too considerate for that, despite being a cream-a-holic. she may be the only cat who has NOT walked on the remote and thus changed the channel on me! i loved her so. i still love her.

I am sad to hear about Kuma, she looks like my Jack who is our oldest. Jack is my buddy and when he goes he will be missed. It makes me cry to just state this but none of us get out of this alive. All we can do is love them and treat them as well as we can. Sorry for your loss.

no, this is a very good vet. her problem didn't make itself apparent to me in time to save her. she had badly infected ovaries but there are two ways that works: open, in which there is vaginal discharge and you can see that something is wrong and get help, and the closed kind, where nothing comes out and you just don't know. i took her in because i thought i felt a tumor, and while i was planning to take her in (i have no transportation; i had to wait for someone to give us a ride) i realized she was kind of barrel-chested. when i got her in the barrelishness had gone south, and the tumor thing was gone. it was probably an organ being pushed into an unusual position. she was extremely ill, even though she didn't seem so or act weird, when i took her in. there was only a 50 percent chance the surgery would be a success anyway. we took the chance. she seemed to be doing well but there was no way to know she was going to end up having a pulmonary embolism. her age, 15, was also a factor.
