I asked a good while ago, in a different group, what it means when a cat raises it's head and closes It's eyes slowly at you. I had a lot of remarks but unfortunately they mostly conflicted and a lot were merely sarcastic. It is a large ginger tom across the street from me that does it when we have eye contact! Any Ideas from proper cat people?

I was told from a very early age that it's the kitty "I love you".

Now if you soften your gaze and blink back slowly - they'll do it back and forth with you. (Usually just a few times though I've done it a more than a few time with my own when they're very relaxed).

It's definitely a little energy exchange.

And it's only done with folks they like. I've never caught my cats doing that when they are nervous. Or seen a cat do it with someone they don't trust.

So that cat likes you.

Cats are good at picking up on human energy. I presume you like this ginger kitty?

Yes, very much, he's a daredevil, he leaps from a third floor balcony up around 4 ft. to the terrace of the adjacent building where he can get down steps to street level, going off hunting I imagine! Wonderful.

Kitty blowing you a kiss, more or less.

that is an expression of love. i have never seen it described as anything but that, i have often seen it described as that, and my own extensive experience of loving felines and being loved by them confirms it.

The cat is not feeling threatened by you.

The slow blink is usually reserved for it's own people. Gingers are affectionate though...hmmm.

I am told that the cat is sending you good vibes. My cats do it when they're being affectionate. It is a sign the cat thinks you're safe and they feel good with you.

He's being non confrontational and doesn't see you as a threat currently.
