"Trickle-down" economics began as a joke. Seriously.
If there’s one person most often associated with the origins of of trickle-down economics, it’s President Ronald Reagan. Few people know, however, that the phrase was actually coined by American humorist Will Rogers, who mocked President Herbert Hoover’s Depression-era recovery efforts, saying that "money was all appropriated for the top in the hopes it would trickle down to the needy."
Now, nearly 80 years later, Rogers’ quip is getting the punchline it deserves: A devastating new report from the International Monetary Fund has declared the idea of "trickle-down" economics to be as much a joke as he'd imagined.
Imagine thinking it would actually work!

In reality the first incarnation of this theory was the horse and sparrow theory if you over feed your horse, the sparrows will be able to get enough food from their droppings that both will grow fat.

@altschmerz It was the 1880s so people were more attuned to farm animals and their interactions. Sparrows were still a food source and horses were the largest beast of burden.
I was in a business training a few weeks ago and we were asked to go around the room to say what person you think is a hero. One old white guy said Reagan and I have avoided him ever since.
