Teaching Bans:
[theconversation.com]
CRT is not something taught in K-12 classes, anyway. & tho I agree that teaching history should be grade/age appropriate, any white-washing will be counter-productive in the long run. As an example, much of the idiocy & misinformation on drugs, during the '60's & '70's especially, led to much of a generation laughing at & distrusting government info on anything ! & when this was combined with the lies about Nam & other government actions led to a massive mistrust of government, & politicians, in general. This helped lead to tRump & even the vaccine resistance we see now.
The couple years that I taught history, I was primarily an English teacher, I simply taught the truth of what really happened regardless of what the book may have said. My take on Cuba raised a few eyebrows, but no difficulties arose on the issues of slavery. When I taught American literature, I always brought in lots of "minority" writers. (When I taught Minority Lit, I got to meet Alice Walker).
