Seeing things as either/or and assigning the opposition to the side of evil is a religious-type reaction. So is assuming the innocence of your side, whether it's your religion or your country.
Noam is a linguistic genius. He needs to stick with what he will be remembered. He has a twisted of the history of Yugoslavia, however. Starting at the end of WWII, Tito held the country together by being a ruthless ruler. Most of his military officers and many soldiers were Serbs. When the Soviet bloc broke up and Tito was dead, the country fell apart into factions, some were committing genocide (facts and even trials for some leaders). NATO reduced much of the killing.

True but that was the result of Germany wanting the breakup of Yugoslavia for economic profit.
