I live in Nashville and I feel pretty alone in my views as an atheist; I feel like I'm in the closet, especially coming from Los Angeles. Are you open about your views? As an atheist, agnostic, or otherwise non-religious person, have you experienced bigotry, social sanctions, or stigmatization?
You came to the right place. There's no need to share your views - in public or with your family. They probably know your views anyway....and if they're religious they know there's not one shred of validation for them...so like we did when we believed in Santa....we slowly gave up on the myth.. They will, too...but it will take time. Come here....chat here...make friends here.
You feel alone being an athiest because all the other agnostics are afraid to tell their friends they secretly are in your camp!
Few "christian's " i've known live by what they preach and those that practice it , have educations at the lowest level of society! Fact as education increases "god blessing" declines and moral gudgement "the moral teachings of all religions are very similar!
In the past 100 years we have learned where we came from and how we got from the single cell to man, today! Remember Carl Saga's quote " We are all star stuff! When someday we have a visitor from another galexy or??
No mater what they look like chemically they will be very nearly the same as us!
Live in central Texas!!!!
Do not tell, do not ask!!!
No one really bothers me!!!
Any way I do not give a fuck what they think, they do not pay my rent or bills!!!
That must be very isolating and difficult for you. I’m lucky that I’m British and there really isn’t any need to hide the fact that I don’t believe in god. It really doesn’t come up in everyday conversation in any case, but if it did it wouldn’t cause any angst. You have my sympathy.
Live really close to LA, so yea I'm fairly open.
I moved out here in 1990, from rural Alabama.. so yea I've experienced bigotry, social sanctions, and stigmatization.
