How many people in your world seem shocked to find out you're an introvert? They all seem to have the same reaction: "But you're so friendly! I thought you liked people"
I am friendly, and I don't dislike people. I just don't like when they talk too much. After a few minutes I tune out... especially the sloooowwwww talkers. Just say it and leave!
Three innocuous little words: "How are you?".... and oh, the havoc they wreak

I was a performing introvert for a large part of my adult professional career. Meaning my job mandated a persona of extrovertedness, and I was/am very good at it. But I am now at a place were that is no longer a trait I choose to exercise and the people closest to are always saying the "but you're so friendly, how can you call yourself an introvert..." It's been a struggle to get people to understand the difference while trying to maintain a good rapport with those old acquaintances while not falling into the "performance" version of me. Any easy transitional sentences you're willing to send my way, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

I could have written that comment you just made. People don't understand introversion. They think it means we don't like people... Or we're shy. It's hard to explain to them that it's a difference in the way we process media. Too much of it is exhausting. That's why being on this site is so freeing. We "get" each other.
@TheoryNumber3 Like all sources of light(information) there is a spectrum in our proclivities. Learning to navigate them, both internally and externally(socially) has become tiresome but I still wonder, how can one communicate an intent or preference and be heard(understood) without wanting to talk? Lol ! They say communication is 97% non verbalBut in this day and age, people not only don't listen, they don't see each other. Well, I see you my friend. Thanks for the reply.

Ha! Not surprising, coming from someone with your handle. It it a spin off of "The Law of Three" or maybe an association with Tesla? He had a very unique theory with 3,6,9

@Fibonacci1618 Ok that was completely fascinating. A lot of it was over my head but the gist of it is totally freaky. The first encounter I had with the number 9 was when I was in grade school and my uncle told me to write the digits 0 thru 9 in a column and beside them write the numbers 9 through 0, forming 2 digit numbers. The he showed me that each of the pairs of numbers added up to 9 and were also divisible by 9. I never forgot that. So I guess the answer to every secret to life, the universe and everything isn't 42 after all

I have same reaction from people. Usually I feel drained by most interactions with people, but not all people

I generally do ok one on one if the person isn't an incessant or loud talker, and reasonably not boring
Many people just don't understand what an introvert is. It is usually not a topic of discussion but when it comes up, some people are surprised that I am an introvert.

Sounds serious There are people I've known for years who don't know I'm an introvert.
Especially when I'm trying to get something done . I have to finish their sentences which is rude , and then it gets to the point where I'm nodding and totaliy disconected figureing some excuse to leave . I do like my friends but sometimes their too much
