Last year we planted some grasses that were supposed to like partial shade and would grow to 6' in height, according to the sales gal, they grew to 2' in height and then died. So this year I dug up the remains of the grasses and planted some peace lilies that were the same price as last years grasses and already taller than 2'. Let's hope they do better than the grasses.

Surprinsily they are looking great. Do you water it everyday? I would image so.
Can you plant some lemongrass? They are hardy, looks like a nice ornamental grass, you can apply in culinary and they do take partial shade. 
Also cheap since you can take clumps and spread it around.

The sun doesn't hit that area until 1 pm and only lasts for 4 to 5 hours, provided they are watered, they are happy. Half shade and half sun, makes a peace lilly happy but they do like their watering, same as the decorative lettuce that I keep in pots, give them even more sun but water the heck out of them.
We have a saying in this country. Plants don't die, it just new planting spaces appearing.

The Brits have so many wonderful sayings, we lived in Bermuda for 8 years and I think we heard most of them, so much fun.
Boy I love the texture of that wall. You definitely have an opportunity to plant something which would really set it off. What sort of temperature range do you get? I hope the Peace Lilies work out but I know nothing about them.

-30C to +30C is the temperature range here, 5b is our growing zone.
Peace Lilies outside? I have only seen them as house plants,, I did not know they were an outside type of plant.

They won't make it through a winter outdoors but I would imagine they evolved in the outdoors to begin with.
I always have great luck with ornamental grasses. No luck at all with peace lilies.

I hope the opposite is true for us, my wife is pissed about the ornamental grasses that were a flop.
