My Ex planted many Columbines about 15 years ago and they are still going strong even after moving them several times around my yard. They self seed and come back every year - but they also cross pollinate and make new hybrids - and colors. Some hybrids can produce washed out white flowers with little or no color... I am not a plant breeder - but selecting new and vibrant hybrids for their color could be fun.

They certainly don't look like the originals.

Love Columbine flowers. They don’t grow well for me here in the Houston area though...😢

Really? Is it too hot? Too humid? I am relatively nextdoor to you, and I just planted little seeds last winter. Some took, and I am hoping for flowers next spring. I was told they are tricky to plant but readily self-seed, and that they get stronger each succeeding year. My fingers are crossed.

@MikeInBatonRouge I didn’t have a shady area to plant mine, and they would get burned up in the hot sun where I was living. I think they would do ok here if I had just had some shade.

@Redheadedgammy yes, shade is needed....someplace near moss would be ideal, they like the same dark moist conditions.

@AnneWimsey yep. I could grow them beautifully in Nebraska where I lived as my back yard was shaded by a huge Silver Maple! I miss that tree and that back yard!!

They're beautiful! Particularly those in the first picture - so perky.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
