My gardening consists of removing & preventing invasive species on my properties. Plant natives & see how easy gardening is. 2 acre prairie requires mowing or burning once every 3 years or so to keep the tree invasion down. 1 acre oak savannah woodland plants. Wetland plants along the half acre pond. Giving back what I can to Mother Earth.
Ooh, so much to work with! Keep up the good work! I only have a tiny quarter acre suburban lot, but you do what you can. At least I have 6 mature oak trees, lots of native wild dewberry blackberries and have let them start proliferating, have planted paw paw trees and a self-fertile American Mulberry, an American Beautyberry, American/coral honeysuckle, passion vines, rudbeckias, salvias, coreopsis, etc. I still hope to add more understory trees, perhaps redbud, dogwood or similar. Every little bit of land can contribute something to the food web.
This sounds amazing - Yes, pictures, please!!!
Geez, it would be pretty tough to employ more labor intensive methods while gardening on two acres at 102 years of age. For that matter, why not just watch the natives battle it out with those invasives while you watch from your screened in front porch with something cool to drink? Pick your battles!
