Tonight my meal consisted of a beautiful custard apple. I had intended on only eating half of it but having devoured the first half gluttony and a little justification in the form of "it is at peak ripeness now, tomorrow spoiled" prevailed.
I then thought "Share it" on "Food Glorious Food" so hear l am. In taste it is like a very sweet Bose pear with light vanilla custard, the flesh having a slight graininess. The seeds are wonderfully shiny chestnut brown and look like juvenile cockroaches without legs.
I think my fruit 620 gram fruit (about 150 grams skin and seed wasteage) cost nearly $7 - more than l normally pay for meal ingredients. Here is information on this S.American fruit. I heartily recommend everyone to try it at least once in their life. ABOUT CUSTARD APPLES – AUSTRALIAN CUSTARD APPLES [custardapple.com.au]

This is an excelent photo of a cut fruit. Touching the photo on my phone screen enlarges the picture so presumably the same happens on computer touch screens or try left mouse click. Note that the stem is already going brown. The photo also shows the grainy nature of the flesh and the lovely shiny seed.

Well, they do look kind of scary, as apples go but if I come across one I''ll try it.

Sounds awesome... i would love to try it. We don't have your apples. I bet they taste sweet being called sugar apples. Hope i didnt miss something in your post about the recipe?

Nothing like an apple in look. And when ripe much softer. You can cut it in half as I did and then scoop the white flesh out of the leathery skin with a spoon. The flesh quickly goes brown when over ripe. Taste is nothing like an apple in my opinion.

@FrayedBear ok..

@BucketlistBob Did you look at the picture in the article?

@FrayedBear its green with a shield type covering.

@BucketlistBob I've just put up another of it cut in half.

@FrayedBear hmmm... ill look

@BucketlistBob It is on neither. Just press on the link a t the top.

@FrayedBear. Geeze ... I finally got it. Yes, its similar to the apple...thank you.

@BucketlistBob yeah just like the gila monster is like a skink. ?

@FrayedBear lol... ok brother... if i got it wrong then blame it on my A.D.D. lol

@BucketlistBob There was no call for my snarkyness, I'm just out of sorts atm. A few others have probably copped it.

@Donto101. Have a look at this one for your climate. Here it is mainly tropical and subtropical areas where it is grown but I know one guy locally growing mango and I think we had -4°C overnight. Another to investigate is this beauty, the article doesn't have a photo but there are plenty to see on the net. The fruit imo is nothing like pineapple mentioned but is one of the best flavours that I have ever eaten but requires proper ripening.
