Chicken and Duck pen (next year’s garden) done. Deep bedding 6” to 12” in the pen except for one area we left for them to take dust baths.

That looks really great. How far is it from the house? I always worry about rats.

The corner is only about 20 feet from house but we keep the feed sealed up. We don’t have any rats

@Donto101 That's good. Rats are more of a problem in semi-urban environments. You look rural enough not to have to worry.

@CeliaVL mice and snakes are one of the reasons I got the Guinea keets.

@Donto101 I would have thought you were quite far north for snakes. What sort do you get?

@CeliaVL I live in central Florida. We have a ton of snakes here rattlesnakes cottonmouth Rat snakes garter snake pygmy rattlesnakes Black racers and coach wips just to name a few. We have a 4 foot black racer that live in our pole barn. I leave him alone. He is probably the main reason we have no rats.

@Donto101 Wow! Placed you in the wrong bit of the USA completely. Not the place for me. One reason I love the UK is that we have only one indigenous harmful creature - the rare and timid viper. I am amazed you can keep captive poultry with all those snakes around.

It's going to be a big garden. Good dirt!

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
