Just leave it on the stem that stuff is awful.
I'm guessing that Okra is a 'Southern Thing' - I've never seen anyone grow it up here in Canada.

We use okra for our chili/spaghetti sauces.
I didn't plant any this year as I've enough in the freezer from last season. Awesome stuff!
