I planted a dwarf peach tree about mid May and it's looking awful. The leaves are curled up, yellow and drying around the edges. It's the only thing I've ever put in the ground that hasn't thrived. Can someone tell me what's going on?
Does everyone agree transplanting it at this stage would flat out kill what's left of it?
I planted a pink dogwood at the same time and it's doing fine.

I was thinking if I put it into a slightly larger pot and stuck the pot about two inches in the ground, in the shade of the shed, it might save it till fall. I can't find them here in the fall. I've grown them from the peach pits before and they did well. It's something about the grafted one that's getting me.

If it's a graft, I would pot it and place it in the shade. You can make a manure tea, but it's simpler and inexpensive to buy fertilizer sticks for fruit trees and place in the pot. Keep it watered and plant it in the autumn.

There's no shade to be had! The soil is kind of heavy but drains well. I water it as needed so it's not that. I've added fertilizer even though I've never used it before. I've top dressed it with compost and cured cow manure. I'm beginning to think I'm just going to lose one. Probably from the heat we've been having.

It could be a lot of things, first guesses...too hot, planted too deep, not enough water too much water, inconsistent water.

@Carolekay, I'm going with the heat. I planted it exactly the depth it came out of the pot in. I learned that the hard way. But then I was reading on a website about the planting depth being two inches below the graft was the way I understood it but I've never heard of planting deeper than the original depth.

It's probably that it got to be about 112 here a couple weeks ago and even my old landscape plants fried. Roses and Plumerias wilted and they are heat lovers.

It's been really hot , perhaps a bit of shade and some water , might help ?

I'm betting on the heat.

what kind of soil?

btroje Level 9 July 26, 2018

It's a sandy, clay kind. Not heavy like clay clay but not really light. Good drainage. It should have been planted in late fall but nobody brings stock in that time of year. It's a matter of take it or leave it.
