Sweet potatoes and white potatoes, to me, are two totally separated foods. Not interchangeable. But that is me. Potatoes are a starch. Sweet potatoes a great alternative to dessert; just crumble a little raw brown sugar and butter on it. But that's me.

sometimes I cook several sweet potatoes and then keep them in the fridge. A quick pop in the microwave and I have dinner.

I wish I like them but I sure don't. I have tried so many times and still don't like them.

@Sheannutt Tastebuds are funny. My ex thought cruciferous veggies tasted bitter. I LOVE broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, etc. Not so much brussels sprouts. My kids take after me! It is also like the cilantro thing. To some folks it tastes like soap, not to me and my kids. The partners of the kids have the soap thing.

@HippieChick58 yes I like all those vegetables to except for brussel sprouts and asparagus. I am one of those people that cilantro tastes like soap.

They have a few more calories per hundred grams - 87 as opposed to 76, so shoyuld be treated with caution on a calorie-controlled diet. If you are not on a diet, they make delicious crisps (US chips) cooked in the oven, lightly sprayed with oil and salted.

Yes, I did know that. Also, they are high in potassium, which is essential to heart health. They are high in vitamin C, which is extremely beneficial for healthy skin. They are a good source of magnesium, which is required for every bodily process...every organ. They have a low glycemic index, which means they do not raise blood sugar quickly when ingested (good for everyone, especially diabetics). They are high in beta-carotene, which is converted to vitamin A (Retinol) by the body They are fat free and full of fiber, which aids in lowering cholesterol. They contain Folate, which is an aid to cell growth (which usually slows with aging). AND they aid in collagen growth, which makes your skin glow. I’ve been studying nutrition...food and how our bodies use it and react to it for more than five years now. Sweet potatoes, especially the purple-ish Japanese kind, are a super-power food. And they are the reason I bought an air fryer, so I can enjoy fat-free sweet potatoes AT LEAST every other day.

I've always loved potatoes and have really grown to like sweet potatoes. I've grown them and they are so simple to grow. They are tasty. And, their vines are so nice to look at.

I have planted a good quantity this year, ,_.50 slips, so I am looking forward to the harvest.
Hopefully several bushels by November.

Eldovis Level 7 Aug 29, 2018

Will you be canning them.

@Sheannutt no need for canning.. Sweet potatoes, unlike the regular potatoes keep well for a year, provided they will not freeze, and do not wash them. Next summer some of them will sprout new vines to get a new crop.

And useful to diabetics, unlike ordinary spuds.

That is what I've heard.
