I tried growing a Musa Basjoo once and it only survived one winter. The only way to keep it alive in my zone is heating coils in the ground or take it in for the winter. I like the tropical look but it's too much of a push for me in our garden zone of eastern Canada.
So after the ice cream banana produces it dies? Does new growth come from the stump or sucker from its roots?

You should get the truly tiny bananas they only get 2 to 3 foot tall. Easy to grow in containers

I might get ambitious and try again. I ordered the Musa from the opposite side of my country where they can stand the climate in BC.
Since then I see them here once and a while in the garden centers in the spring as an annual.
