We had a warm break in the early winter that descended upon us last week so my wife and I went out and planted 300 cloves of garlic while the soil was still workable, this morning it is frozen sold. The reflecting pond I drained last night after planting the garlic, just in time by the look of things.

It's been cold here but not cold enough to freeze the ground. Our fall planting is over, unless you're a garden nut and work through the impossible.

My home is in the middle of the St. Lawrence River at Lake Ontario so the climate is an artificially warm 5a. I used a broom handle with a sharpened point to punch the holes to plant the garlic. I like Elliot Coleman's ideas about cold weather gardening, just haven't got that far yet.

@Surfpirate
Good luck with your endeavours. It's too darn cold for me. Our zones are similar and if I had a good reason I'd be in the garden. I'm hibernating till spring. Cheers for pushing the limit to success!

I am not ready for all these cold photos. Is it too early to wish for spring?

You're in NC, what you call winter, we call summer in Canada.

@Surfpirate IT seems lately that down south they are getting more snow than we are up north..

@AmmaRE007 please say it isn't soooooo! Currently 62° and I am in long socks, jeans, a t-shirt & a sweat shirt - I am gonna freeze to death! ??❄❄❄❄??

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
