Did you know this? I didn't know this! How to eat a pineapple.
It looks like the Pineapple needs to be quite "aged" or almost over-ripe. I looked this up.. this is pretty much how I do it.
BTW...When you remove the "crown" you can put it in water and grow new pineapples....
First, trim all the "flesh" away from the leaves at the base; so you're just left with vegetation and a core tip. Then put toothpicks in it...to hold it upright...and submerge just the tip in water.
Change the water every other day for several weeks until you see tiny rootlets sprouting.
Once the rootlets sprout find a spot in a sunny Florida, South Texas, Hawaiian (of course) or Southern California garden.
I've never grown them indoors...maybe you have?
Below the video is a pic of my "babies"
I have wanted to try it, but don't buy them often.
@Hathacat They're a good food value....If you get a 4 pounder for less then $4 that's less than a buck a pound for good fiber, natural sweetness snack in your diet.
They're generally priced...so pick the biggest/heaviest in the bunch. And if you're a gardener, you get a plant if you're careful.
Some vendors freeze them too hard in shipping, and they don't ripen well (hate to name names...but Walmart is bad about Pineapples in S. Florida...Aldi's is great. Haven't tried a Publix Pineapple lately.)
@Robecology They are too acidic for me. Maybe if I put it in a blender...
@Hathacat Indeed...a tiny pinch of baking soda might make them more tolerable....I can't do without my regular supply!
i just stuck mine in a pot
@btroje photos, please? Did they do well?
@Robecology they are still alive.Not sure what the future will bring in Northern NM 7000 feet
@btroje Sunny window? outdoors?
@Robecology cmon teach how could they be outdoors?
@btroje Yeh....Northern NM...7000 ft...gotta be quite cold still. ooops!
I don't put in water at all. I remove the flesh, let is dry for a day or so and plant directly in the dirt. I have a few growing. They hbe survived the winter here in northern FL.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
