I love dogwoods, they take on such a lovely form!
I planted redbuds in the berm between the sidewalk and the street. Since we live on a corner, we have 2 sides. The trees in the front are about 20 years old and they have had some trouble with the hot summers. The original trunks have all become scarred and rotten, but the tree lives on from the suckers that grow from the base. Every year they have produced a beautiful crop of pick flowers. After the flowers fade on the ends of the branches, a smaller crop blooms on the trunk on small bunches. It is a sight with the new leaves emerging and the flowers blooming on the trunks of the trees.
Looks like you have some of the Eastern or Chinese types. We have (or should have) the Western variety (Cercis occidentalis). Several differences is that the Western is drought hardy and there are multiple trunks starting at the bottom. I had one is Seattle and have 2 here. Their heart shaped leaves are beautiful and a favorite for leaf cutter bees. It has multiple seed pods (which are edible when new - but not very tasty) and are a favorite nesting material for birds when they are dry.
Here in North FL, those two were showing off their beauty back in February.
@sweetcharlotte I have tried sending you a reply twice. I gave up typing a long msg for nothing. lol
