Interesting! They are more like Dutch Iris than the Japanese Iris is. These are some of my Dutch Iris in past years. The salmon colored one is gone now, taken over by the white which was clearly the root stock for a number of my colorful hybrids. The reddish one has retained color well but it is isolated from the large stand of iris which is largely white now. This year I plan to dig the yellow and a white/purple one which are still in the rows. I hope to prevent them being overtaken.
