Oooh, I didn't know they would bloom, fantastic!
Fantastic! I've never done those. Would they grow well in Arkansas I wonder?
I don't see why not. Just bring them inside if it's too cold. They need bright light and very little water.
Mine live in a hanging wire basket outside my carport. But I have two attached to a drift wood by house wall. Both places do just fine.
I chose the ones you see on the pic more often because they get more sun
I had forgotten what neat plants these are. A friend once rented space in my house and she brought on which hung in the bathroom for years. When she left she took it with her and I forgot how much I like these plants.
Do you remember which one it was?
@Zoohome What I like about this site is that it jogs my memories. I remember it sat on the bathroom window sill for years.It was a bit small and sitting in an open seashell. The one amazing coincidence is just after meeting my late partner it started to bloom. A long, thin stem with white flowers. It bloomed several times after that.
@JackPedigo sounds beautiful.
I have a house plant, quite common and easy care, Chlorophytum comosum. Not an air plant, but it shoots a long stem with white flowers. The end of the stem makes a new baby plant.
You might want to have one of those as well
I have tons, I can mail you some if you want
@Zoohome That would be really nice but I already have 4 spider plants and one keeps sending out shoots like crazy. I let one dangle from the cabinet and cut the rest. I prefer indoor plants as I seldom have to do any weeding. What do you know about the care of the jade? It is supposed to be easy but I can never seem to get one to survive.
@JackPedigo Jade, the succulent? it loves bright light. The one on the picture gets sun in the morning, But I have others that are greener and just get indirect light, but bright. I think if you keep inside the house, it could get sun at some point during the day. I have one at the office and it is doing good with the 24hrs fluorescent light above it.
@JackPedigo I hate throwing away the shoots from the spider plant. But there is so many potted spider plants you can have. lol
I gifted little ones to my coworkers for Christmas. I should had gifted some more for easter. lol
@Zoohome So what can one do? One of my plants had several babies (shh, don't tell the Alabama governor). I have a very active plant in the kitchen window. Sometimes it gets to big and I have to cut pieces off. They will form roots when put in water but I have no more room.
@Zoohome Good to know. I have a sunroom with 4 large, south facing windows. The Jade is on the sill of a west window. I will move it and see how it does. You do know that we are so far north that in the summer we get almost 18 hours of light. My concern is how much to water it. I have a (holiday) cactus and water it very little (and even less when it is blooming). That seems to satisfy it as it continues to grow and stay healthy.
@JackPedigo I'm not sure jade is too picky for water routine. They take drought and daily water. You can probably water the same as you water the holiday cactus, if the jade leaf starts to shrivel (wrinkle?) Then water a little more.
@JackPedigo if you ever need jade, let me know, I also have babies that I can donate.
@Zoohome Thank you (how do you ship it?) However, I can't even seem to handle the adult. I also have an Agave plant and it's doing just fine.
@JackPedigo just inside a box. I have traded plants with two other members here.
We are still working on shipping skills, the plant usually gets out of whatever container you originally placed it at. Lol
My agaves are good too, I have way too many to plant still, they can get really big. My aloe on the other hand, is not blooming. Everyone else's aloe here in north Florida is blooming. I believe its lack of direct sun on it.
@Zoohome Sun is not a problem for me. In fact I have to put some cheap bamboo shades outside the windows to keep the sun from heating up the room/house. Very few of us (and not me) have A/C.
@JackPedigo so you can definitely grow your house plants for sure
@Zoohome House plants are easy (except for the Jade and a Philodendron (which I'm getting the hang of). It's all the outside plants and the pruning, weeding and later watering that is my big problem. I have gotten to the point I have to start letting go of some things.
@JackPedigo what happens to the jade? Looses leaf? That is a light issue
@Zoohome Yes and some of the leaves turn yellow. I have moved it so now it will get more sun. Funny, when I have visited San Francisco I see these plants everywhere. They are shrubs and get really big. Here I can't even seem to get one small, silly plant alive. Lets see how it does with more sun.
@JackPedigo keep me posted.
Ok, its bed time for Eliana here. I have an early day tomorrow.
Have a lovely night, fun chatting with you
@Zoohome It was and I also have to turn in (even though it's a lot earlier here - I am a morning person).
@JackPedigo me too.
I almost took a picture of a holiday cactus for you today. It was so big and pretty, had woody base it was so old. Probably 50 yo.
