Dang, I missed the bloom, arriving a day late. It started Thursday evening and ended sometime Friday. I was there Saturday and there was almost no perceptible odor.
After the bloom, the horticulturists cut openings so visitors can see the male and female flowers.

They tell me it stinks, but not so much that one has to go running from the room. Maybe the smell has gotten too much hype.
That's too bad. Still interesting though!
