I was washing dishes and looking out the window and, to my surprise was a deer eating one of my favorite plants. I forgot the name of this plant and what surprised me was that the deer almost had to stand to get to the flowers. Now this plant has been added along with Rhubarb leaves, Yucca flowers, Red Buds and numerous other plants I never thought a deer would eat. Luckily, I have a deer and rabbit spray (Liquid Fence) which is based on garlic (I can smell it as I spray) and it really works.

How often must one reapply the repellent to maintain protection?

It seems to work 3 to 4 weeks even with rain.

Yes, crocosmia, I have them also. That's a sad loss!

I was able to nip this in the bud. The Liquid Fence spray does work so the deers diet is being reduced.

Like us , when hungry, they will try pretty much anything, and occasionally they like it. A friend had a huge beautiful Christmas Cactus, put it on the back porch for some fresh air and a little sunlight and a deer ate it down to the dirt.

We don;t have predators on the islands and the deer and rabbits reproduce like humans. When there is too much competition for food then watch out. Unfortunately, the deer themselves become food for the vultures.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
