I have a loquat tree, and with the need for pollination I feed the bees to keep them coming back.

Every little bit we can do for the bees now, we need to do - great setup you have for them!

I couldn't imagine 20 years ago needing to attract bees for a non commercial operation, but here we are. Everytime the temp gets above 60, the bees and butterflies get active, but there are so few flowers blooming.

I love bees. My SIL has about ten hives now. I'm very protective of bees. One flew in my house and I caught it and put it out the door. Same thing in my car.

I am looking at addiing a hive to my backyard, possibly a project for next year.

Great. But it is generally thought better to feed bees with white sugar, there is some evidence that brown can give them bowel disorders.

So if you only have brown sugar make sure you also give them some pepto bismol ?

I had heard the opposite, I guess i need to do some more research.

@glennlab Mike uses sugar water. I checked. Two parts cane sugar to one part distilled water.

@glennlab Check out a beekeeping website if you have time, they usually have instructions for bee feeds.

@freeofgod Thank you, I just picked some up while I was at the store.

I've wanted to set up a bee hive, but my yard is not condusive to that.

I'm just feeding some of the local bees, dark brown sugar and water in shallow pans with rocks and marbles in the pans.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
