I see that in the US you use dowel perches on them, in the UK they are not generally used. Because people say that they do not help the birds much, but do help predators. I think that it may just be a cultural difference though, that has no scientific support.

Great nesting boxes. My house wrens insist on building their nest on the lintel of the kitchen porch. Some years, they succeed, and some years they fail. I love those little birds. They do not give up!
