WHINE ALERT!

Waaaah...😟

After a long winter in hibernation, I was finally beginning to make progress cleaning up my outdoor work area, cleaning up flowerbeds, adding compost, planting seedlings and new plants... Then BANG!

For the fourth time in the last 10 years, a large limb from the rotting tree in my neighbor's backyard came down and landed at least partially on the roof of my garage. This time, it happened about 3:30 PM and most of it landed on the ground. Five minutes earlier, I was power washing right there, and because of the noise the power washer makes, I literally would not have ever known what hit me.

This time, I was able to lay enough of the guilt trip on my neighbor, especially since his three-year-old daughter plays in their backyard, that he is finally going to have the whole tree removed.

Thank goodness you weren't hurt, and hopefully the garage isn't badly damaged either. And good he has finally seen the light to have the tree taken down. When it is your own flesh and blood at risk it makes you pay attention better.

That’s horrible when you have to deal with neighbors that don’t take care of there trees and yard.

Had one of those. Not as dangerous as yours, I was at work at the time. Came home to find a branch off the tree in the next yard had broken and went through my dining room window, which I had replaced the previous year. Needless to say, had to replace again. Fortunately it happened BEFORE I got the new siding and trim on the house so replacing it wasn't real difficult. The property owners did cut the tree down immediately, although the branch came off during a storm. Oh, yeah, there was that thing about an inch of rain that came after he window was broken. 😟

Yikes! Your incident certainly interfered with your life a lot more than my recent incident will effect mine.

@MikeEC It wasn't bad, biggest hassle was I live 90 miles from the nearest Menards so had to make a quick trip to get a new window as I wanted to get it replaced as quick as possible. The trim/siding was in the process of being torn off to get new put on so 6 months later would have been MUCH more annoying!

@DotLewis That is exactly what I mean. The tree in the picture is laying exactly where it was when it fell, and I am sitting here doing this 🙂

My incident was potentially dangerous, but as it turns out I can take my time and deal with it when I feel like it. Well, maybe that's not the right way to put it, because I cannot imagine ever feeling "like dealing with it."

@MikeEC See your point, having a tree try to enter your house is more distressing than having one on the house or garage. I had an on the house incident years ago, my own tree and it didn't puncture the roof, just tore up some shingles. That occasion didn't have the sense of urgency that came with having cardboard and plastic taped over the window.
On the other hand, a near miss by said tree branch would have definitely unnerved me somewhat. Good luck with the cleanup when you get around to it.

I had concerns about a huge tree in my neighbor's front yard , and asked him to trim it . Said he was too busy and didn't have time . Some six months later , the weather bureau was forecasting a hurricane . I walked across the street and started taking pictures of his tree , next to my house . He came out and asked why I was taking the pictures . I replied that I was concerned that some of the rotten branches might fall on my place . He said don't worry about it , my insurance would pay for any damage . I answered that it would be his insurance company paying , not mine . He immediately trimmed it thoroughly , before the storm came through .
