The photo on the left depicts an olla that I pulled out of the ground at the end of the growing season a few years ago. You can see the remains of the plant roots and how they wrapped around the vessel, drinking from it. On the right you can see the hole from which the olla was extracted and how the plant roots encircled the vessel.

That is so cool!

Very cool! On what sort of plants did you use the olla?

Donna_I Level 8 May 12, 2018

Tomatoes, peppers, squashes and melons. Works well on plants that we tend to grow individually. But I have used them in containers for peas, beans and okra

How many pounds of clay do start with?

About 2 pounds for a 1 1/2 gallon olla.

@farmboy2017 thanks! I am going to try this out. I'll post if I can get it to work.

@CraeftSmith Are you a Potter?

@farmboy2017 not professionally. It's just a hobby. I usually make little jars, bowls, and things that I need. I am not very good at it, but I like practicing 🙂
