I have a purple robe locust tree near my house. Can I manage the invasive shoots or suckers any other ways besides cutting them back?

Geta 3pt. root cutter for your tractor, doesn't solve the problem permanently but it reduces the time needed to control the problem. For you protection don't use Round-up unless you are trained in chemical safety; it is far more toxic than Monsanto claims; many European countries have banned it, period.

@annedoneal Basically it is a large beam with a single disc on one end running parallel to the direction of travel mounted on the 3pt. hitch of the tractor. I have also seen another version that is a walk behind self-propelled unit like a rototiller but, the large spinning dice that close to where I am walking frightens me.

Cut suckers and paint with industrial strength Roundup. That'll take the whole tree out without damaging anything else around it.
That's how we treat invasives here like Buckthorn and Japanese Honeysuckle.

@annedoneal
In that case, you have quite a maintanence chore

Kill the tree. Beautiful but problamatic. Best planted where they are contained by cliffs, water, or some kind of containment.

Posted by KateOahuI saw some pretty flowers on a walk today. I’d never seen a white Hibiscus before. And I do not know what the pink flowers are.
