Knowing the hyper-sensitivity of dogs...that pie's drippings are still there in the soil...He didn't return to that bush for the sight...the smell brought him back.

I'm told it's actually a bush, which hides the entrance to a gold mine upon which women can sit. 
This reminds me of a Brittany Spaniel we had when I was a kid. "Buddy" figured out how to scale the back wall of our yard and one summer, every Thursday, he'd come back into our yard in the morning with a wrapped hot dog. Like, a commercially wrapped up dog/bun at a carnival or food truck. He'd very carefully unwrap his breakfast and relish it. Quite hilarious.
One day he just stopped escaping and there were no more morning hot dogs. We never did find the source....
