I had that happen to me in the dead of winter on a run from Calgary to Edmonton, around the halfway mark at Red Deer I noticed a weird smell so at the next turn off I pulled over, popped the hood and flames shot out of the engine. After I managed to smother the flames in minus 40 below temps I found that a screw had backed itself out of the carberator and was pumping gasoline onto the exhaust manifold.
