Reminds me of when I lived in Hot-lanta in 1985. There was a plumbing company somewhere along 285 called Jawja Plumbing!
I never had a southern accent despite being raised in Alabama, we owned a TV.
My father was a red neck hick of monumental proportions, but he didn't have a Southern accent either, so he could be a failure at everything he ever tried to do.
The most cring worthy thing I've ever heard was a guy with a deep southern drawl calling his girlfriend "Kumquat."
I feel a little sick just remembering it.
I was raised by my English teacher grandmother, If I talked with either a southern or cajun accent, I caught hell. In high school, I was in debate, and one of the things that they drilled into you, No southern accent, it makes you perceived as less intelligent.
