'Tis a silly meme. They misspelled the name. It's Cesare Borgia.

And, in reality, this image was painted by Warner Sallman in 1940... not 1490. And, the story is completely made up. This image bears little resemblance to any existing portraits of Cesare Borgia. They even have the incorrect pope as his father. Cesare was the son of Pope Alexander VI (not IV). (He was the brother of Lucrezia Borgia, whose role as a femme fatale has been depicted in many novels and films.)

We're supposed to be a group of critical thinkers here. When we have actual historical references for things like this, we have to use them. When we buy into this stuff without actually verifying it, we're just as wrong as those we rail against for believing things on faith with no evidence. We have to be better than this.

I know... "It's just a meme. Don't get all bent out of shape over it, Duke". But, it perpetuates the myth that atheists aren't the critical thinkers we claim to be.

@phxbillcee ... There is no offense intended towards you for posting this! I hope you don't take any!

Nah! I stole it & accepted the source 'cause "it was just a meme". If I was posting on one of the more serious Groups I would have checked deeper.

Plus, a girl on here said she liked "Jesus Memes", so I was grabbin' any hippie picture I could find!!!

@phxbillcee HAAAAAAHAHAHAHA!!! Carry on!

@Duke I figured you'd understand!

The difference is we are willing to stand corrected when evidence and proof show us to be wrong.

In the spirit of skepticism: Snopes: [snopes.com] has a good discussion about this meme.
