Living on a farm i ate squirrel ; the thing is
it still had "buck shot" pellets in it. We need to understand where food comes from- i try to eat vegetarian to benefit humanity and the future of the PLANET.
I ate sea weed- because my sister in law was Japanese,,, and enjoyed it. Other sources of food give us a chance to expand our HORIZONS. We never know what we would like
unless we try it,,,,after all how do you know your favorite ice cream ect.? Childhood is a critical time to explore foods , so we are NOT handicapped by commercial foods and advertisements.
Thanks

Same here, I have had a lot of varmints off the farm.. that's what we did living out in the country. One thing you learn is never name an animal that you know might end up on the dinner table. 😉

@mistymoon77 I grew up on a ranch and we named our animals appropriately, Our pigs got names like. lord bacon, hamlet, etc. our steers were named porterhouse, short loin, etc. helps keep you in the right frame of mind when slaughtering time comes along

I used to raise meat rabbits, more hassle than it was worth. My wife loved it because she didn't have to do any of the work except feeding once in awhile.

Good lesson for the kid. Most kids have no idea where their food comes from especially meat. I once went out with my brothers family to a restaurant that served 'wild' meats. My brother showed his young daughter the menu and said, look Thumper and Bambi are on the list. She got so upset she knocked over his beer in his lap (his wife told him he deserved this but he thought it was funny). Hmm, winder if his daughter still remembers this.

Hossenfeffer is much tastier than a barbequed rabbit.

I could never cook them that they were edible back when I hunted. One of the reasons I stopped hunting.

Those are domestic rabbits, too much meat on them for game.
Based on size and length I assume they're a cross between New Zealand and Californian breeds. The New Zealand breed produces lots of protein and the Californian breed gives the offspring length.

@Willow_Wisp I would never even consider domestic for dinner. It would be equivalent of eating cat or dog since I had them as pets.

@Barnie2years Wild rabbits also have a season and when not in season the ones out here in California are full of parasites. Domestic rabbits are much safer to eat.

@Barnie2years You've probably had cat chow mein and never ever knew it.

I grew up eating those.
