They are called trans-neptunian objects. Thus everything past Neptune is classified as in the same area. Size does not matter nor does the actual orbit. Would not surprise me if there were over a million or so of them. Lots of stuff out there.

Is this going to be like Pluto, once not a planet, then a planet, then not, now maybe?

One wonders what we might discover were we to send probes designed to remain in orbit around the sun beyond Pluto in order to map the Kuiper Belt, rather than flying past as previous missions have done. Lots of raw material out there, perhaps waiting to be 'nudged' into a more elliptical orbit.
