You don’t have to be a believer to appreciate Bach, but for those Xians who are serious about celebrating Easter Johann Sebastian Bach’s Oratorio St John’s Passion is one of the cornerstone pieces of devotional music. It premiered in Leipzig, Germany on this day in 1724 and here the opening chorus - “Herr, Unser Herrscher” is performed by The Netherlands Bach Society…conductor Jos Van Veldhoven.

@Marionville It’s how I start most days. 
I love singing Bach. St John, St Matthew, Mass in H mol and Christmas Oratorio. I presume M you have also sung all of those and various cantatas.Jesu Joy, Sheep may, Sleepers awake etc etc!

@Marionville I sung that at my eldest brother's 21st birthday complete with spinet and viol da gamba. I was probably at my peak vocal as my voice broke at 15-1/2 but the year and a half before were wonderful, singing solos all over the place. I remember loving Winchester.
@rogerbenham I’m envious of you singing in that great cathedral…but I have sung solo in both The Usher Hall and St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral…both in Edinburgh. That of course was in my very much younger days when my soprano voice was as clear as crystal and could soar like a “lintie”!
I'm more of a fan of his instrumental works.
