Yesterday I posted about a French band who were at the forefront of Prog Rock and the Concept Album ….today I’m featuring a German Band acknowledged as the pioneers of Electronic music. Formed in Düsseldorf in 1970…Kraftwerk are widely considered to be the first band to pioneer and innovate electronic sounds into commercial success and to popularise the genre. Computer Love. - Kraftwerk, live in 2013.

I like a lot of the e-music!

Yes…I like a lot of it too.

Yes I bought a couple of their records but I'd bought Pink Floyd 4 years before Kraftwerk. And I'd bought them because of all the electronic sounds they'd made. Who did Telstar? That was pure electronics. Or the DR Who theme?

Telstar was performed by The Tornadoes in 1962, and the sound was produced by the inclusion of a clavoline which is a keyboard similar to a Moog synthesiser…which did use electronic circuitry. It was a “one of” use by a band which otherwise used traditional drums, keyboards and guitars. Dr Who theme was composed by Ron Grainer in 1963 and created as a “one of” theme for the series in the BBC workshops…again using electronic circuitry, it is in fact the first ever electronic theme song. Kraftwerk on the other hand pioneered fully the use of entirely electronic circuitry to make whole albums and perform live on stage, and eschewing completely, traditional instruments. They are recognised as the first band who popularised and sold Electronica as a music genre to a worldwide market.

Sounds a lot like the music used in video games my son played when still living with me. They had some very catchy tunes.

Yes…I suppose it’s a natural marriage…electronic games and electronic music.

I’ve heard this band before, and really liked their sound! 😍 This is a good one, and isn’t it something that they were still making music in 2013!! 😍

They’re still touring in 2022…although they sadly lost one of the originators of the band…Florian Schneider in 2020 aged 73, after a short battle with cancer.
