I just read that for the sixth year in a row Finland has topped the UN’s Happiness List…the list which rates the happiness of citizens in all countries in the World. It’s a country in Scandinavia which is covered 75% in forest with 30 indigenous species of tree, with a large surface area of lakeland too amongst the forests. Jean Sibelius is the best known Finnish composer and one of my favourites…so in celebration of Finland topping the list again this year, let’s listen to his Finlandia and take a look at some of the majestic scenery and wildlife of the country…

It’s all quite gorgeous…music and scenery!
Nice seeing the divers (as you call them, loons as we do) near the end.It is so similar to the BC that I chose to live in. It has the daylight of Yukon but I'd presume that it rarely is as cold as us because of the Gulf Stream. These differences may well tend to different species. Yes we have some cariboo within 20 miles of my home but the vast bulk of them are at least 1500 miles north of here above the arctic circle. The lack of light may make their winters longer but we are still 5 months. This year is super unusual right now as I still do not have snow. We'll see. It is forecast for tomorrow. Those bears were different. We have masses of black bears, hundreds of which were "euthanised" this year because draught drove them into town and cities where humans are not bear conscious. I've lived beside them since 1980 accept thhat they have more of a right than I to the land as they have been here for over a million years. Yes are are plenty of grizzlies but mostly they are shy animals, but sadly with very poor eyesight, though excellent smell.
