FrayedBear just brought my attention to a video that I need to study and do a post on. I've seen this guy in it before, it may have even been the same video. I probably blew it off due to the fact that it's hard to get people to view video content. But it correlates with a meme I recently came across which I'll share now to set a prelude to attempt to induce interest. As I stated recently, I'm seeing what appears to be more interest in a sort of agreement with my post. I hope that's a good sign. But the message that will be delivered in the video is something we've already been through before after WWll. And the fall back to reliving it again, the meme sings true. Please put some thought into this meme! Then the video later. Evolving can either go towards worse, or for the better. We're heading towards worse currently.
And what grew out of that or in tandem is 'those who don't know/learn from history are doomed to repeat it'.
We only have our history and there have been many attempts to rewrite or white wash how North America became the United States. Pesky facts are there, too many were either never educated about them or just choice to believe the fiction - usually white fiction with money.
Ignorance is a devastatingly serious issue.
Which we just lived through another one in regards to WWll victory celebrations in comparison to how western nations, Ukraine, and Russia and their current and past republics celebrated it. Where threats against EU and NATO nation leaders were targeted for joining Russia during theirs. Where history has 2 versions in which one is widely misleading. I'll leave that right there for whoever to step in shit or facts.
@William_Mary I think you realize - much like detectives know - witness testimony can vary, widely in some cases. Not going down that rabbit hole but I have an identical twin. According to mom from the moment we popped out our personalites were very different - perhaps I did wrap that cord a bit too tight, lol - and our perspectives/experiences of growing up are VERY different. I am a loner/hermit sort of person but I can be very gregarious and do enjoy talking to people, in a disruptive sort of way. Twin sister really has to be with people, doing things with people, busy all the time, make people happy/like her.
Today she is the Christian Nationalist sort, far right, only gets 'news' from FOX, Newsmax, Epoch Times. Still hates our mom and blames her and me for much of what she 'suffered' as a kid.
While I was hurt by my twin always calling me fat and a slob I did craft my excellent 'fuck it' attitude. First twin out is almost always bigger, I file by pile and clutter is what I do. She'd get so pissed she physically attacked me a couple of times, once over my fucking tooth brush. I never really cared what people thought of me, did not dress for success, quit going to church at 12 yo, basically ignored mom but followed the rules, never whined or cried - well there was that one time lol - solved my own issues, twin always ran to parents, basically mom really could not control me emotionally like my twin.
YIKES, sorry ranting.
Here it is, multiply 2 peoples different experience by billions and it's a fucking wonder we got this far. One more example, twin does not seem to realize our mom was disabled. Forcep birth caused damage to the nerve at the side of the neck that makes our arm work, she could not raise her right arm. She had fucking issues and did the best she could. She bucked the system of a girl not finishing school and marrying at like 16. She trained as an x-ray tech and worked in a doctors office and was doing that when she met Dad. She was saying in the early 1960s that antibiotics were being over used and germs would become resistant, smart, etc., but a racist and a bigot. Kept it to herself (at least I did not get it til I started seeing a black man).
Our views on the world are way different and that is the state of human nature. All humans are this way, we gravitate to like minds, biases. The problem is humans do not seem to have evolved for the most part, we need an upgrade. The far back history is not complete, only the really hard copies survived, the rock and metal stuff. Paper and fragile stuff was kept to some degree, enough to tell us human nature was as fucked up then as it is now just trying to survive. Well that was fun.
What common misconception of evolution are you going by with this post? How is the particular brand of ideology or misconception someone currently carries reflective of allelic change over generational time?
I mean the adoption of dairying may have led to lactase persistence, but that’s not what you are alluding to here. Maybe there’s a reason 1/3 of people are more susceptible to authoritarian thinking in certain sociocultural circumstances. Does that make them more or less evolved in an ascending or descending scalar sense per adaptive evolution?
Given a majority of our genome is littered with neutral or nearly neutral junk I’m not sure I know what you are getting at. Better or worse is a false dichotomy in nonadaptive evolution.
Is it something like the misleading caricature of human evolution rendered in the illustration here?:
If we had not started putting warning labels on everything decades ago you would clearly see how evolution works.
@Sticks48
Well I guess I should go along with the humor and not be a stickler, but I don’t think labels saying not to eat the silica packet in beef jerky or the warning not to interact with my dashboard touchscreen while driving are going to have much impact on human evolution. People can mistakenly avoid reading labels past prime reproductive years, actually senescence could be a factor in such things, yet at that age all the kid raising had ceased.
An occasional toddler sticking a fork in a light socket might be offset by the overall importance of inquisitiveness that led to that rare outcome. Darwin Awards are oversimplifications of reality.
