Umami and MSG A recent editorial by Carrie Dennett ”Avoiding MSG, Look beyond the myths” showed that former “common Knowledge” of the “Chinese Restaurant Syndrome” has since proven to be a myth. [twitter.com] The food writer Jeffrey Steingarten argued that fear of MSG should be seen as a Western-centric mindset, lacking awareness of its common use in Far Eastern cooking without apparent problems: "If MSG is a problem, why doesn't everyone in China have a headache?" When I was eating the Standard American Diet and had oriental dishes with MSG I would get a stomach ache. So glad there's lots of flavor with culinary arts.

@Gooniesnvrdie no wonder when I make Asian culinary arts, I feel so much better.

A lot of people have problems with various foods. I can't tolerate any dairy, sesame or sunflower seeds.

@JackPedigo sesame, too? Hum may be I should test on sensitivity to that as well.

@WarmFluffy The test is called a FoodStats Antibody Assessment test. It's easy and not too expensive and gives a lot of information. [facebook.com] and [usbiotek.com]

@JackPedigo looks like it's for pros.

@WarmFluffy One has to go to a specialist to get it done. I went to a neighbor who is a naturopath. There are clinics everywhere.

Here's my problem with MSG. We don't call salt sodium chloride. Why can't msg have a name? So it doesn't sound all chemically. This had been bugging me for a long time.
