Does anyone else feel this way? I feel like I've become a shitty citizen. I can no longer stand to give five minutes of attention to the news because it pisses me off so much. I just feel like the whole country has gone to hell and I can't do a damned thing about it until November so why even pay attention anymore?

Watching the news can be depressing. Donating to the ACLU is empowering. VOTING can set you(us!) free!!!!

You are not alone. Millions of people, including me, feel exhausted and stressed by the daily barrage of horrifying decisions by the Trump Administration and Republicans.

In April, I registered 74 high school students to vote in four days with two other volunteers. We will do it again in September. The school set up a table for us to use during lunch hour.

Please help register new voters. VOTE Republicans out of office!

Yes and i am in the U.K- I feel your U.S pain and my own!

I constantly walk the line between being informed and being crazy anxious. It is a rough time. You're not a bad citizen, you have to protect your sanity.

7

I can hardly believe the truth-defying adolescent ad hominem level our political discourse has degraded to. That I can tell you. Believe me. Sad.

7

That is probably not a bad idea. I know how l will vote in November. There is no more information out there that will alter those plans.

7

I know what you mean. It seems pointless to try to engage when society is dominated by so many bad actors.

6

I hearya, I feel like a shitty citizen, too. It's a constant fight between wanting to stay informed and wanting to stay sane.. We yell and scream at officials and are told point blank that they don't care. We vote and those votes are ignored. What else is there to do short of open rebellion?

Ashamed to say I've been on a media blackout for awhile now... I just don't have the luxury to get constantly pissed off, altho it still seeps in. I read links ppl post, and see things in the FB ticker (yes I know that sounds awful). Got enough on my plate.

It's not apathy on my part, just sensory overload, which is still scary since it's obvious by your post I'm not the only one.

6

I have to take breaks from the news for my own sanity. I try to stay informed and be as active as possible but sometimes it's just too much.

6

I know just how you feel. If it wasn't for the sports page and the funnies I wouldn't even read the morning paper. Every time I open it up I think what did this orange douche bag screw up today.
remember to vote, offer people rides to the voting stations, and help the candidates.
We will all get through this.

I understand exactly what you mean. Watching the news means feeling even further outrage, and I felt like I reached my outrage capacity more than a year ago. I can't afford medication for depression, so I just don't watch the news. It has become a matter of self preservation. You can bet that I will get more involved closer to November, though.

@ProudMerry yes it IS a rerun

I think that is what they want pissed off and running but I feel the same

You are not alone. I no longer watch any TV news programs. I read the sources that I trust to stay informed. Hopefully the elections will bring some changes.

Bend like a willow in the wind ..let the B.S pass over you..take 2 Tylex and 1 valium don't drink alcohol..go to bed and sleep for 10 hours. In the morning take a brisk walk breathing through your nose..clear your mind...and then exercise your right arm...you'll need that ready for November baby..

4

I generally don’t watch new shows. Just want news not their opinions.

4

I can't watch broadcast news at all. Their focus on featuring one semi qualified talking head after another has undermined their credibility. To make matters worse they dwell on the same small set of issues 24/7. The only remaining principled news sources with a broad scope IMO are the newspapers. I have been reading several of them daily for decades. There is an editorial slant in the papers but they are not an all out propaganda machine for the major political parties.

4

The news is crap. Lets you and I run away together and go hide in the woods ?

Donate to the ACLU, et al, and VOTE!

@AnneWimsey
Can't vote, I am in SA !

@ProudMerry
With you and I together we don't need internet ?

@ProudMerry
By a bear in the woods ?

@AnneWimsey Tge ACLU has finally admitted this week that is leftist leaning.

@commander42 ohferpetessake. You are a trump lover, aren't you. Go back to rotting what's left of your brain by watching Faux.

Yes, many of us, I think. I flatly reject 45's "fake news" call; but the TV news in many cases seems to focus so relentlessly on The Fool and his minions, that it has become tedious. We know what schitz they are. Let's get some news about the positive things the opposition is doing, or anyone's doing, for that matter. Maybe educate the citizens in their region about voting registration, etc.

Is this a new feeling? I am feeling revolted by the NEWS for the last 35 years.

The news media broadcast 2 minutes of important news, 2 minutes of BS news, 2 of fluff and 24 minutes of commericals. Sometimes they will combine BS and fluff if it concerns a "celeb".
