This is certainly necessary to teach children, but having a whole course for it would take a lot of time. Just teach kids the physical and decisional component of how mental illness is brought about, but explain it to them in a way that actually talks about the subject matter. Basically, teach them Maslow's Hiearchy, and they should be fine.
